Nine teams played a single round-robin pool in the Women's category at the World Championship 2026, and by the time the group stage was done, Germany and the United States were the two sides nobody else could touch. They met for the title on Thursday evening, and the United States came out on top 3-2 to win a fourth consecutive World Championship.
Pool stage
Germany finished the pool unbeaten at 8 points, conceding nothing across four games, while the United States also went unbeaten to finish level on 8 points of their own. The pairing structure meant the two group leaders never played each other in the pool. Germany closed out their group with a 4-0 win over France in the last pool game. The Netherlands took third at 6 points, ahead of France, Italy, Mexico, Finland, Norway and Great Britain.
Knockout rounds
With semi-finals set by a 1 versus 4 and 2 versus 3 pairing from the pool standings, Germany beat France 4-2 and the United States beat the Netherlands 3-1 to book the final.
France took bronze with a 4-1 win over the Netherlands, their third podium finish in as many World Championships.
The final
The United States beat Germany 3-2 in the final, played at 17:50 on the NXL Pro field, to claim a fourth straight Women's World Championship title.
What it means
Four titles in a row is a run that few categories anywhere in the sport can match, and it extends the United States' hold on the Women's World Championship to every edition since 2023.
Silver is Germany's third in the category, after finishes in 2017 and 2019, and the team is still chasing a first World Championship win of its own despite three trips to the podium's second step.
France's bronze is their third straight podium finish, following silver medals in 2023, 2024 and 2025, a run of consistency matched by very few nations in the category.
The Netherlands' fourth place is the best finish in the country's history in the category, improving on a previous best of fifth. It is a marker of real progress for a federation building its Women's program.
Nine nations, one round-robin pool, and a final that came down to a single point between the two best teams in the category. The Women's World Championship 2026 belonged to the United States again, but Germany, France and a rising Dutch side made sure they had to earn it.
On the numbers
With nine teams in a single pool, Women's ran to a top-four knockout format straight from the group stage rather than a quarter-final round, meaning every one of the category's 22 games carried real weight. Only six of those 22 games, just over a quarter, were played on the tournament's main webcast field, and five of those six came in the preliminary rounds rather than the knockouts. Wednesday's entire Women's schedule, all nine games, was played away from the main field, with the category's webcast slots concentrated on Thursday alongside the other knockout games.
That scheduling meant Germany's unbeaten pool run, conceding nothing across four games, played out largely off the main field before the semi-finals brought the category's biggest names back into the spotlight for the finish.
